McCall: I Hope that Everyone with Diabetes Can Recognize their True Potential

mccall diabetes

My name is McCall Salinas and I live in Nampa, Idaho. I am 14 years old and I was diagnosed with T1D 4 years ago. Although diabetes is a definite struggle, I have had so many opportunities presented to me because of it.

You may have heard the story of Miss Idaho 2014, Sierra Sandison. If you have read the full story, you would know that there was a little girl backstage...well that girl was me. Meeting Sierra was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Because of her, I was able to get an insulin pump, be a guest on the Dr. Oz show, be interviewed for articles, and so much more.

Diabetes has not slowed me down one bit. I still get to do everything that I love such as compete in pageants, play volleyball (school and club), and so much more! I hope that everyone with diabetes can recognize their true potential and not let this disease define them. "You are capable of more than you know." -Unknown
